It’s not an everyday thing to get a nomination but I just heard I’m nominated to Vixen Blogawards in the category Best Fashion Blog Of The Year in Norway. To be up in the running in the country where I’m from means a whole lot to me, though I don’t live there it is my home and always will be. So if you want to give me your support you can cast your vote by clicking here, scroll down to the bottom of the page, tick my box and finish by clicking Stem. (You can vote until 14th of January!)
For those of you who never had the chance to experience Fashion Week live in any of the major cities are probably unaware of the activities outside the shows. Yes sure, you know what streetstyle photographer’s are all about by now, but here’s a little insight of the great bunch from New York on how it works, lovely Craig Arend from nymag.com does the talking.
That prints and patterns are some designers vision of spring 2012 is quite clear by now and according to some the more mismatch the better. Not very surprisingly the prints continued on Missoni’s, Pucci’s and Marni’s runway in Milan this weekend, but Dolce & Gabbana topped them all continuing where Stella McCartney and Prada left the fruit disk last season and introduced vegetables. How would you feel about a chili printed dress, or how about onions, tomatos and cucumber? I don’t doubt these prints will be a hit among some but for me a big no, see the whole collection here.
Call me boring or perhaps I’m lacking humor but my personal favorite this weekend from Milan is Jil Sander’s SS12 collection where Raf Simons have let paisley, gingham patterns and all-white-shirts-looks replace last seasons successful stripes and color blocking. Perhaps not the most exiting collection by Simons but it’s a clean, fresh and minimal way to include patterns and prints, were the long, narrow silhouettes and graphic printed jumpers continues where his A/W 11 collection ends, see the whole collection here.
Unfortunately I didn’t have the chance to go to Alexander Wang‘s show yesterday, as I wasn’t there I’ve watched the show full video over and over again and I find myself liking the collection more everytime time, though it didn’t jump on me directly like his recent collections, these looks are so wearable. Speed, sport, motorcross, “girls living on the edge”, gangs, and “American Indians” are references behind his SS12 collection which definitely oozes speed, and keep an eye on those pointy shoes ladies, fierce! Enjoy this short version of the show while I run out for dinner, it’s 9/11 and the city feels calm……
The Isabel Marant show today was 3 hours delayed so all my plans to do a run out in the late afternoon was also very delayed cause I really wanted to see this show live as I’ve been looking forward to it for a while. Marant herself obviously have had cowboys and indians in mind for this collection, and if I just close my eyes for the hideous footwear I see many pieces that I really like, loving would be an exaggeration or maybe they just need time growing until the must-have moment kicks in.
Favorites are the denim pieces, I wouldn’t mind any of the white coats either and the wonderful knitwear seen in her spring collection is still in there. I guess I’ll be trying to lay my hands on certain pieces when they are in store in like 5 months….
See the whole collection here and judge for yourself.
One designer I really wanted to see yesterday was Mark Fast but as I people were lining up in order to get in to the show I realized it would be an impossible task, as seen several times this week, not everyone even with invitations to the shows get inside, simply to many people.
We ended up joining the disappointed crowd watching the show on big screen outside the tent instead.
Today I attended the Swedish designer Ann-Sofie Back Atelje‘s presentation at the Portico Rooms at the Somerset House and it was actually one of the best collections I’ve seen so far this fashion week, having that said her designs really appeal to me and I love that she’s taken a step away from the “ugly” looks she did in the past and now creates beautiful, clean cut, tailored basics in gorgeous fabrics with that special detail. Pay attention to the metal details on everything from the shirt, blazer, and accessories, so clean, so stylish with an edge.
Yesterday I stole my boyfriend’s new leather jacket from Jil Sander, I love the clear blue color of it and the leather oh so soft, I will continue to encourage him to buy super fitted stuff so that I can borrow it without looking like I’m drowning.
It was a cold day indeed but as I hardly spent any time outside I survived.
Leather jacket Jil Sander, skirt James Perse, knit Helmut Lang, sandals Acne, bag Mulberry
It wasn’t such a kickoff day of fashion week as I thought it would be, rather a slow start that felt more like as if it was the last day, people’s enthusiasm, energy and excitement simply wasn’t there as I’ve experienced in the past. Maybe cause the weather didn’t turn out as good as expected, perhaps the shows disappointed, who knows.
But I strongly believe it will all improve today despite the rain outside, it’s Saturday and the crowd missing yesterday has arrived from NY.
Unfortunately I didn’t get a photographer stand yesterday, so images are blurry and I struggled with the light, hopefully that will get sorted out as well.
I’m heading out again in a minute, have a lovely noon!
