Blanket coats and capes are coming big time next fall, with the latter as a personal favourite, and taking inspiration from Sain’t Laurent’s pop-princess-silhouettes, the hunt is on!
After being on the road the whole week for shows in Stockholm and Copenhagen, I’m finally back in a much warmer London with lots of impressions in my luggage(s), so please forgive me for the lack of updates on this space, but it will now turn for sure.
Amongst the shows I attended in (freezing cold!) Stockholm was the H&M global Design Award where the crowned winner turned out to be Eddy Anemian. The French designer who studies at La Cambre in Brussels, presented his 4′th year collection, inspired by Tilda Swinton in the movie I Am Love (Love!) and the French painter Ingres. Except from receiving a cash prize of 50,000 euros, H&M will develop pieces from the collection to be sold at selected H&M stores this fall.

If you are waiting for images from Phoebe Philo’s Resort 2014 collection to drop at style.com or other sites then please don’t hold your breath. According to WWD the Céline house has decided to “do-a-Tom Ford” and keep images of the new collection under wrap for now. And we may all wonder why, or perhaps not (read Zara?).
Meanwhile, we’ve always the fall collection to dream about, the pale knee length skirts, voluminous tops and checked coats for instance, meow…
Searching for a super comfortable, glam, yet understated sandal with functionality, then look no further, and look up delRioLondon. These are unisex slippers with a Spanish heritage and come in all sorts of leather, fabrics and colours (pony hair, leopard anyone?). Mine are SS14 and special editions in vintage Chanel fabric and I absolutely love them!
Norwegian designer Peter Dundas at Emilio Pucci, served refreshing 70′s vibes yesterday in Milan, and rocked everything up a little from what we’ve been seeing lately. The bangs(!!), hotpants, prints, capes, furs, mini dresses and glamour bohoness was all there, and these thigh high leather boots(!), olalla!

Fashion weeks have already moved on from London to Milan, but except for Alexander Wang’s wonderful “furry collection”, here are some of my other favourite looks and pieces from NY’s fall collections presented last week. If these collections are anything to go by as for trending directions for fall 2013, then we can safely include black and white looks, leather and fur pieces in the trend forecast for now.
- Proenza Schouler’s bulky contrasting silhouettes and wowen leather pieces
- Altuzarra’s monochrome superhot(!) body slinky dresses and leather pieces.
- Tibi’s wearable snugging pieces and I need those thigh high leather boots in my life(!)
- Phillip Lim’s jackets and cool layered silhouettes, and again I am reminded that a pair of round sunnies are still missing in my wardrobe.
- Victoria Beckham, sophisticated with a masculine touch, pencil lengths with bulky tops, and that gorgeous checked coat, please send my way!
I’m celebrating this Friday morning with some of my favourite couture looks presented this week in Paris, dreamy graphics at Giambattista Valli, sharp romanticism at Christian Dior, and beautiful whites at Valentino. Though couture might feel lightyears away for most people beautiful dreams and inspiration are both for free. On another note I’m loving that some couture has taken a smarter and cleaner path, though the simplicity I wouldn’t underestimate the handcrafts, it’s still there for sure.
Many of the pre-fall collections that usually tend to get me all wow’ing and so did very little for me this time around. Having that said, as to no surprise (to myself at least), like Phoebe Philo, Stella McCartney always delivers and these are my favourites looks, androgynous classic pieces with maxi proportions signed either of these two ladies can hardly go wrong, can they……
If you have your ways through London from now until 3′rd of March then a hot address in town is the new Valentino exhibition that opens tomorrow at the Somerset House. It promises to be a journey into the secretive world of Italian couture and includes everything from exquisite couture designs, photographs and screenings, add that to your calendar.
A few weeks ago I was kindly asked by De Beers to pop by their beautiful store on Old Bond to pick my favourite pieces for a holiday wish list for their website. Needless to say I had a blast, I mean, trying on the finest jewellery and diamonds of all sizes isn’t really that hard and not something I do on a daily basis.
Here’s my “demure” diamond-dream-wish-list and not very surprisingly I ended up with quite classic delicate pieces that are not too much in your eyes, and can be worn stacked together, on their own or mixed with chunkier costume jewellery, just the way I like it. These beautiful 0.03 carat band rings (starts from £650) for instance are perfect for stacking, or use as pendants on a chain.
You’ll find all product information and prices here on De Beers website, and a big thank you to De Beers for the warm in-store experience!
