Mule up

Collage created using TurboCollage software from www.TurboCollage.com

Chunky wedges and high heels can come and go as much as they like, but when it comes to investing in open toe staples I intend to spend long summer days in, chic comfort will always be a winner.
Personal favourites of mine this season are these wedges by Chloé that would go along with anything casual or not, while adding a pop to all other things monochrome.
One of these pairs will for sure be joining me on a tropical escape some day very soon.

Yours for £560 and you can find them here and here.

On my mind…

Collage created using TurboCollage software from www.TurboCollage.com

Whilst we’re at it, some of us feeling the January blues, with colder degrees descending every day and signs of spring still far away, here’s a few thoughts, picks and tips currently on my mind…

1. To urgently refill one of my cannot-live-without daily skin boosters, Santa Maria Novella’s fascial rose water, a product that hasn’t been credited enough, longlasting and you don’t need to dig very deep in your pockets either, but hard to find elsewhere than their own stores I’m afraid.
2. Chloe’s new killer python loafers!
3. A relaxing holiday escape to a coconut island instantly!!
4. Winter sales are still ongoing, and as a knitlover high quality cashmere is always a good investment, the knit above is by The Row on 40% sales at Net-a-Porter, who’s also offering winter sales up to 70% right now.
5. All things ruffled, on sleeves, collars and detailing, this top by Gucci is no exception.
6. I’m not the greatest fan of basket style bags, but this raffia basket by Balenciaga got me onboard at first glance.
7. Celine’s SS16 earrings!!
8. Colder weather does no wonders for my skin, but Bamford’s new serum certainly does, can’t recommend it enough, one of the best serums I’ve ever come across, and perfect for sensitive skin types.

A lesson from men…

Umbrellas - Farfetch- The Northern Light

After many years in Rainland I’ve spent unknown amounts on rather cheap, not functional, nor good-looking, emergency umbrellas, who all happened to be just that too, not lasting much longer than the time to get transported away from the momental heavy rain attack, or being left behind and forgotten about shortly after. Maybe splurging more on a luxury upgrade would last a whole lot longer, incorporating it in your outfit sort of way. I would certainly think twice before leaving stylish investments like these above mindless behind, a lesson from my most stylish male friends…

You’ll find a great collection of stylish, timeless and genderless, works-with-everything umbrellas on Farfetch.com, officially on my wishlist! Umbrellas by EtroAlexander McQueen and Swims above, ranging from £47 to £495.

Sales picks up to 50%

Netaporter sales picks 16.06.2015 - The Northern Light

Summer sales has officially kicked off in Europe, just in time for summer to finally arrive, it strikes me every year how the sales conveniently coincides when the actual season begins, mind the lack of heat this year, now is the time to strike on those items you’ve been eyeing. Today Net-a-Porter’s summer sales kicked off with up to 50%, with additional designers and products to be added to the sales in the coming weeks. But unless you can allow yourself jumping mindless in the sales trolley, think a few steps further and invest in pieces that you wanna slip into right now but also carries you into next season and further. The latter explains my sales picks of today, mind the preach, but forward thinking has become my mantra (at least most of the time…). Happy sales shopping!

Breaking patterns

It occurred to me the other day that we’re already in June, though April and May always have a tendency to slip through my fingers, the unawareness this time around is that juggling too many things at once, has led to my autopilot taking the lead, however I’m immensly happy to be equipped by one when overloaded.

It’s time for a change though, and sartorial-wise I’m feeling in the mood of trying on new elements. Being a “femasculine minimalist” at heart I rarely step outside that territory, and I believe I’m not alone. In a conscious attempt of releasing myself from knits and monochromes, I’m into exploring new shapes and prints without investing too much on my side trip. Newly launched brand Finery offers just that with highstreet price points(!), contemporary designs, with a little playfulness, like this jumpsuit for instance, that I’m gonna wear to bits this summer!!
You can also find a great selection of new pieces in the edit on Finery London.

How we roll…

Summery temperatures have finally started showing in London, though I wouldn’t dear leaving the house just yet without a throw on or a warming knit. Speaking of the latter, this cashmere piece have certainly proved it’s value and juicy tag. Never have a single piece been recycled and loved as much as this one in my wardrobe. While you might have tired of it by now, I never will, which again proves to me that investing thoughtfully in your wardrobe really does pay off in the long run. It’s not rocket science, but if you’re a knit girl, invest in the best knits, same goes for dresses, shoes, jeans, or what else closest to your heart, and play around with the rest from high and low.

Black velvet x NET-A-PORTER Holiday

After long time searching high and low for something perfectly flared, this high waisted specimen by Proenza Schouler just fit like a glove. Culottes you may say, not quite, and not fully trousers either, but I’m just about to move into this pair and gonna carry them a long way, all through the festive season and beyond. How my ankles will feel about that when the cold sets in is a different story, but sometimes unhealthy sartorial choices come first.

On another note, some may find all black boring, but I surely never will. It’s all about playing around with different surfaces in shapes of great tailoring. If you’re looking for some timeless black investment pieces yourself you’ll find a great selection in Net-a-Porter’s Evening Room.

Black Friday

Black Friday Picks-The Northern Light by Hedvig Opshaug

It’s Black Friday!!!
Celebrating a season of sales shopping and great retail offers with some of my favourite picks out there. My best sales shopping tip is to invest in classic timeless high quality pieces that could end up being staples in your wardrobe for seasons ahead, and avoid the trap of too-on-trend-at-the-moment pieces, though it can be very tempting. Think ahead and keep next season in mind, happy shopping gals!

Knit-nerd

Can a girl ever have enough of soft, chunky, cashmere turtle knits?
Judging from what’s dominating my wardrobe shelf in the knit department, apparently not. In my opinion, there’s nothing as cosy and versatile during fall as snuggling up in an oversized knit, preferable in shades of grey. Bags, shoes, come and go, but if there’s one item I find really worth investing in this is it.

Wishing you all a glorious sunny 1’st of October!

Being an “investment-dresser” and a black cat at heart like me, means you end up with a wardrobe mainly consisting of black, timeless separates. Boring you may say, but the positive side is that it sort of all work together without putting much thought to it, and I guess that’s the case for all different styles out there. Knowing what’s to your liking, save and invest in it!
Unless wardrobe space is none of your worries, then one perfect fitted black blazer or leather jacket worn over several seasons or years is better than having 5 collecting dust on their hangars.

Yup, summer is definitely in progress, and while outfits are getting lighter that certainly goes for your mood as well, feeling lighter and more chilled. Sartorial-wise it was finally time to bring out shorts this week, which I’ve pretty much wore every day lately, to me shorts are the new skirts this spring.
Happy Weekend and may the sun shine on you all!

Sum-up

Holidays are the best, and I guess I had my fair dose this month which was heavily needed. It’s time to roll up those sleeves (literally!), and look forward to the best season that’s lurking around the corner, no more holiday blues here no.
It’s incredible how escapes and sunny rays lift your mood, and recharge your inspiration batteries.

As for outfits ahead, I could pretty much live in this one all through the coming season, tailored relaxing separates and a pair of luxury slides, pretty much sum up my summer 2014 before it actually began.

Trousers by Acne (also here), top by Topshop, By Malene Birger vest, slides by Celine, necklace by Marte Frisnes, rings by Tom Wood and earring by Sophie Bille Brahe.

Black cat

Being a black (and white) cat at heart does lead to a pretty monochrome wardrobe, hence it’s fun sometimes to invest in pieces that add that little extra but still goes well with what you already have in stock. A fun bomber is one way to go to mix up with classics, either it is a sporty, mannish or printed version. You’ll find loads of options out there at them moment, and  personally I chose to go floral, an addition to my other floral less wardrobe.

Something camel

After searching high and low for the perfect camel coat, which is to me elementary in every wardrobe, my choice landed on this classic specimen that I’ve been eyeing season after season, but somehow never ended up getting in the past. With the “invest-in-your-wardrobe-motto” in the back of my head I finally ended up justifying the deeper pocket dig. And in the knowing that this type of coat will be a very used timeless staple in the years ahead, instead of being shuffled aside and forgotten due to whatever direction trends are moving, it’s justified right there.

Trousers by Studio Nicholson, shirt-dress by Maje (also here), coat by Max Mara (similar by Max Mara here and here), shoes by Jimmy Choo, Chanel bag, RayBan’srings by Tom Wood and diamond earring by Stone Paris.

Windy days

During periods of horrid weather like we’ve had in London the last week it certainly affects the way you put together outfits, so naturally boots have come back on again and we’re back to layering. Dress over pants thing is one way to go that I’ve been sporting lately and though this isn’t really the best demo of it I guess you get the picture.
