Breaking patterns

Hedvig Opshaug 28.05.2015-1

Hedvig Opshaug 28.05.2015-2

It occurred to me the other day that we’re already in June, though April and May always have a tendency to slip through my fingers, the unawareness this time around is that juggling too many things at once, has led to my autopilot taking the lead, however I’m immensly happy to be equipped by one when overloaded.

It’s time for a change though, and sartorial-wise I’m feeling in the mood of trying on new elements. Being a “femasculine minimalist” at heart I rarely step outside that territory, and I believe I’m not alone. In a conscious attempt of releasing myself from knits and monochromes, I’m into exploring new shapes and prints without investing too much on my side trip. Newly launched brand Finery offers just that with highstreet price points(!), contemporary designs, with a little playfulness, like this jumpsuit for instance, that I’m gonna wear to bits this summer!!
You can also find a great selection of new pieces in the edit on Finery London.

Jumpsuit by Finery, shoes by Jimmy Choo, bag by Chloé (find a selection of Chloé bags here), watch by Isabel Marant, gold necklaces by DeBeers, TomWood and Marlene Juhl Jørgensen, diamond rings by Monica Vinader, claw ring by Maria Nilsdotter.

The perfect block…

miu miu suede sandal 1

Finding the perfect block heeled sandal hasn’t been the easiest of tasks despite the block parades this season. Not being a fan of too bulky heels in general this little sandal by Miu Miu is my absolute favourite in stores right now. Simple and clean, works with everything, with the perfect block heel and height, there’s certainly no wiggling ahoy.
Yours for £365 and you’ll find them here. (In patent nude here).

The midi…

Hedvig Opshaug 02.05.2015-1

Hedvig Opshaug 02.05.2015-2

Being a casual denim girl at heart dresses are not exactly dominating my hangers, however being a lover of one pieces it makes perfect sense to make some room for them. I won’t put my forces on little party numbers or couture but simple midi dresses that works 24/7. I happened to like the dress above so much I decided to get it with prints too, that I would wear with a cashmere knit and sneakers on the go. Thumbs up for versatile one pieces, one of my active steps to declutter a hopelessly unorganised wardrobe situation.
Though a pair of pretty courts would perhaps had been the obvious choice with a pretty dress like this, I broke up the prettiness with my granny heels by Celine, fugly indeed, but love’em!!

How we roll…

Hedvig Opshaug 25.04.2015-2

Summery temperatures have finally started showing in London, though I wouldn’t dear leaving the house just yet without a throw on or a warming knit. Speaking of the latter, this cashmere piece have certainly proved it’s value and juicy tag. Never have a single piece been recycled and loved as much as this one in my wardrobe. While you might have tired of it by now, I never will, which again proves to me that investing thoughtfully in your wardrobe really does pay off in the long run. It’s not rocket science, but if you’re a knit girl, invest in the best knits, same goes for dresses, shoes, jeans, or what else closest to your heart, and play around with the rest from high and low.

Skirt by Raey, cashmere knit by Celine (similar style in cotton by Victor Alfaro here), sandals by Tibi, bag by Chloé (also here), diamond necklace by Marlene Juhl Jørgensen.

Favourite Shirt…

ganni shirt

After years of having to tune into men’s departments for the perfect shirt, brands from high and low finally got around a few years back and understood that the female specimen opted for the same fit and look, but just a little more neatly feminine fitted in the right areas.

Danish mid-market brand Ganni, recently launched a small mannish shirt collection in cotton and silk with the perfect fit for a reasonable penny, starting from £90 and you’ll find them here.

We all need it at some point, to take a few solid steps back, escape all usual surroundings, change of scenery and routines, take deep breaths and lower our shoulders. Speaking for myself, and presume for many others, the challenge is finding the time. For as much as we love glorious beach holidays with friends and exploring exciting cities over weekends, I wouldn’t necessarily call it charging batteries, unless it’s somewhere completely remote and silent that puts things in perspective, but by the time you return to high speed normal life hopefully you’re missing the buzz too.

For me that escape is heading back home to were I grew up in the North of Norway, and while spending my Easter there for all outdoor activities than can be offered, I again teamed up with Net-a-Porter’s lifestyle section , Net-a-Sporter, that offers the best selection of crossover lifestyle and sportswear there is. At higher altitudes than last summers beach run, my favourite local photographer Rune Dahl, captured a hiking trip in the mountain I grew up and basically skied before I could walk, Narvikfjellet.

Not wanting to splurge on whole new wintery gear so late in the season I put together a few allrounder pieces that I will be using for other than alpine surroundings as well. This rash guard for instance will be my faithful companion come water-sport season, and waterproof boots can walk me anywhere in British outdoor life. Anyway, we don’t always need to justify our sartorial choices right, even on a mountain (!), these sunnies speak for themselves…

Faye Mini

Chloe Faye Mini

Chloé has certainly stepped up with this seasons handbags and Miss Faye (previous post), has got an irresistible little sister, the Faye mini. Doesn’t fit your phone though, but roomy enough for cards and other small necessities, the perfect all-round-mini with just the right amount of flare for all occasions. Fits perfectly cross body but I’m gonna wear mine as a bum bag too. Sorry Celine, this is the reason we never happened bag-wise this season.

Faye mini is flying off shelves as we speak, comes in various colours of suede and python, starting from £440, and you can find it here and here.

Fire, air, earth, water…

Hedvig Opshaug 18.03.2015-1

Hedvig Opshaug 18.03.2015-2

Carefree, relaxed 70’s waves have somehow managed to sneak into everything what my own sartorial choices go lately. Personally the lightness fits my own state of mind and vision perfectly these days, or at least how I wish it to be, maybe a subconscious therapeutical thing. I’ve even let my hairdryer rest recently and let unruly natural curls out. After never pictured myself in flower power and being particular boho, I might need to eat my own words by July…

Lace-up T’s

Lace-up T-shirt

A favourite detail this season on such as basic as a T-shirt is the lace-up, which works so perfectly well with all things denim and adds a little springy flare, and gosh do some of us need it right now…
Picks in store right now, cotton T-shirt by MiH (£185), cotton T-shirt by Chloé (£335).

While palm trees and sunny beaches are desperately needed this time of year, I’m turning my wings back to home roots in snowy North of Norway, family and serenity come first.

As of now, I’ve never been more pale, but who doesn’t want to get their limbs out on early spring days. Until that longed for beach holiday shows up, and a de-whitening-process and energy boosting can take place naturally, I’m gonna sign up to Mystic Tan Sprays, spa treatments, and other spring treats. My new favourite boots that weirdly enough despite being leopards, that work with pretty much everything in my wardrobe right now, are amongst my later treats. Because we deserve it ladies and gents!!

sophie bille brahe

Can we ever tire of fine jewellery pieces that in all their simplicity come with an edge too. Danish designer, Sophie Bille Brahe has been one of my personal favourites for years now with her clean fresh water pearls pieces, and rings made for stacking. Latest additions are these 14-karat gold spiral earrings, perfectly understated edgy and delicate, may we have them both please!!!

Rule breaking

Hedvig Opshaug 27.02.2015-1

Hedvig Opshaug 27.02.2015-2

Not being afraid of playing around with volumes the selection of wide legged trousers in various shapes in stores right now suits me perfectly well. Some might believe you need to be on the taller side to get away with voluminous silhouettes and wide legged cropped trousers, but we’ve all seen the likes of petite Miroslava Duma kill all those theories recent years.
Apparently I woke up with with the idea of oversizing myself on this specific day, topped with many of my favourite accessories all at once, not caring about a rule in the world…

Mayla Stockholm

Though the world has fallen for the nordic minimalism and effortlessness recent years, it’s can be hard for Scandinavian brands to break through in todays jungle of international brands, unless they have something unique to offer and attractive price points, but that’s also what some of them do best, catering the mid market. Brands like Acne Studios, Dagmar and Day Birger et Mikkelsen have established themselves internationally by filling the gap between high street and luxury levels by offering great quality price points.

But there’s a new girl in town, Mayla Stockholm (www.mayla.se), founded by former model Marlene Abraham, that caught my eye this last year. Offering something not so typical in Scandinavian terms, cool femininity with an edge, like beautiful neat feminine silk blouses and dresses, finely knitted silk jumpers, mini boot flared trousers and culottes with the best of fits, ticking the mid market price range without compromising quality. Watch out for Mayla’s AW15-16 raw denim pieces, favourite denims of mine come fall 2015.

That ’70s Show

Hedvig Opshaug 21.02.2015-1

Hedvig Opshaug 21.02.2015-2

Hedvig Opshaug 21.02.2015-3

Yup, the 70’s vibes are definitely out there as early predicted, and I love the undone freedom spirits that tags along with it. Though you’re not gonna see me taking it all the way in flower power dresses, long fringed bags and flowers in my hair, like many editorials right now are reliving the era instead of translating it to 2015.
This spring however I’m in the mood of sporting flared trousers (yes, I keep going on about it!), cropped or long with silky blouses, more than ever before, what could possible become my new daily uniform, if my beloved skinnies allow it.
Peace man…

A note

Hedvig Opshaug 15.02.2015-2

Apologies for not posting on this space as often as I used too, I wish I could, but being a one-man show has it’s time limits, if only we had more hours…
With Fashion weeks running full up to speed right now I’m sure you got your feeds and news channels full anyway.

Sartorial wise I’m still holding on to some of my winter favourites combined with a few new season pieces, like this suede skirt by Tibi for instance. Sporting bare legs in February has become the new normal in London and I’m certainly not complaining.
Happy Weekend’ing!!
