Yesterday The Oxford Dictionaries announced that the Word of The Year 2013 is ‘selfie’, a term that most social media users are more than familiar with.
Just like Matthew Schneier at, I find the list of runners up a lot more interesting, like the term showrooming for instance. I admit I showroom from time to time for various reasons, but had no idea these actions had a name.
Do you showroom?

showrooming: the practice of visiting a shop or shops in order to examine a product before buying it online at a lower price. [ORIGIN early 21st century: from SHOWROOM ‘a room used to display goods for sale’.]

I definitely showroom! Not for the price difference, but also for the pretty packages and better return policies. I mean who doesn’t like to receive a pretty net-a-porter package?

And when you make up your mind about a product nothing beats a simple call to the UPS guy. 😉

Guilty. But mostly because the online shops have better return policies if I change my mind…

Yes, I showroom. Partly for the price difference. Partly to avoid impulse-shopping, so that if two days later I’m still haunted by that pair of Stella pants I, 1) know it fits 2) won’t regret the money spent 3) get it delivered to my front door. 🙂
