The last couple of days there’s been a rumour flying in the wind that Alexander Wang has been a likely candidate to replace Nicolas Ghesquiere as Creative Director at Balenciaga. According to WWD the rumour has been confirmed true to market sources and an announcement from the fashion house is expected to be released this week.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a terrible idea? Maybe in 5 years Wang would be ready for this. He’s still a baby designer finding his way. Although I like and own some of his pieces, he’s still very one-note. He needs time to mature.

I am also not too sure about this decision. I hope that he won’t be as unlucky as Alexander McQueen was with Dior … High couture can be a strain, especially when you are not the guy for this kind of stuff. And normally you have to design a lot of accessoires, bags and shoes, because quite often these things are the megasellers.

I really like the shape and cut of the jacket, and the oversized fit looks great. My only concern is the “thickness” and quality of the leather, from the images it looks rather thin so I’m not sure for that price, I guess I would need to touch and see it in real life…… xx
