Picks for Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week is full on and I’m here with suitcases a little too optimistically put together temperature-wise, because Paris baby, you’re sunny but a tad chilly this time around. Still can’t get over that I left my most beloved knitwear back home, that goes for my coats too. Hence my wishlist above of beauties I forgot or I wishfully thinking were mine!

Suede coat by Frame Denim, gold & diamond earrings by Aurelie Bidermann, perfume by Tom Daxon, suede sneakers by Common Projects, wool knit by Victoria Beckham, wool skirt by Tibi, bag by Chloé.
All items available on NET-A-PORTER who offers same day delivery in NY/London/HK.

It’s not often I jump on the print wagon, and certainly not when the colour red is involved, but it was love at first sight back in February, when then Gucci’s newly appointed Creative Director Alessandro Michele, served us geeky-chic seventies vibes and ruffles, that instantly got me onboard.

I’ve been wearing this floral ensemble, signed by the latter, already more than many others of my wardrobe treasures, and will keep on trying for different ways, though varieties are not endless. Anyway, layering over trousers was not invented yesterday, but that’s just what I will do this season to get the most out of my favourite dresses, shorter and longer hems.
And then you’ve got the ruffles… Be prepared, it’s gonna be one of the key trend words come 2016.

Silk dress by Gucci, velvet trousers by MiH, bag by Chloé, watch by Isabel Marant, diamond bangle by DeBeers and shoes by Celine.

It’s been long.
It’s September and half way in through Fashion Week month.
I’m not kicking off a new season with excuses for not being able to update this space for long, but rather say I’m glad to be back!

If the latter can be said about summer being over and done is a different story, but I’m certainly gonna get my bare legs out there as long as they don’t turn blue, feeling in no rush to cover up just yet in heavy fall pieces. Great knits are always perfect for transitional dressing and this gorgeously soft cashmere jumper (!) and leather skirt, both by Danish label 2NDDAY, kept me perfectly adjusted for a busy, sunny day on the run during London Fashion Week.
There’s a jungle of Scandinavian brands out there but you can safely add 2NDDAY to your radar, with edgy contemporary cuts, high quality, not too frightening price points, and great collections to come throughout the year. Available on 2NDDAY.com and very exclusive.co.uk.

See you all very soon, we are back to school!!

Leather skirt and cashmere knit by 2ndDay (in stores in January 2016), suede shoes by Chloé, Ray-Ban’s, clutch by Balenciaga, iPhone case by Charlotte Olympia, diamond rings by Monica Vinader and diamond buffalo by Marlene Juhl Jørgensen.

In the city…

Hedvig Opshaug 19.07.2015-1

Hello August, hope summer’s been treating you well so far, I’ve been saving up mine to enjoy to the fullest for the weeks ahead, saving the best to last.

While many of you probably had the chance to glide around in bikinis and easy summer dresses by now, my sartorial choices have been adapted to a not so hot city summer, which in a way has it’s perks, having had the chance to jump into new fall pieces without looking totally misplaced. As I haven’t yet tired of high waisted buttoned up skirts this A-line skirt by Chloe will surely become a wardrobe favourite come cooler months, but lets hope the latter will delay a little shall we.

Top by Ganni, skirt by Chloe, shoes by Miu Miu (similar Miu Miu style here), bag by Chloe (similar mini style by Saint Laurent here), necklaces by Marlene Juhl Jørgensen and DeBeers.

Hoping you all had a glorious sartorial summer so far, not too tight, formal or dark, but rather light, loose and relaxed. Personally I’ve always seen myself a basics kind of girl, and especially with all juggling this year it has proven to be true. More often than ever before I’ve reached out for chilled classics rather than making a statement, and it somehow all makes sense when time is squeezed, knowing your “style” simplify things, forget about ticking all boxes, at the end of the day most of us live real lives…

One of my best new summer tip, except booking yourself on a dreamy happy getaway, are MiH’s new Linda jeans inspired by Linda McCartney. Seriously the best chilled, high waisted jeans I’ve ever come across, mind you good old Levis’ 501, but if you girls have been searching high and low too, these are the ones!

It’s been long, way too long since last updates, but without saying more it will change soon. Please don’t believe for a second there’s lost motivation behind, but rather a careful thoughtful step back on how to keep things growing forward, while balancing the essence from the beginning, a challenge in most areas we all know. I’m also looking for a PA, could that be you? Please inbox me on “the-northernlight@hotmail.com”. xx

Sales picks up to 50%

Netaporter sales picks 16.06.2015 - The Northern Light

Summer sales has officially kicked off in Europe, just in time for summer to finally arrive, it strikes me every year how the sales conveniently coincides when the actual season begins, mind the lack of heat this year, now is the time to strike on those items you’ve been eyeing. Today Net-a-Porter’s summer sales kicked off with up to 50%, with additional designers and products to be added to the sales in the coming weeks. But unless you can allow yourself jumping mindless in the sales trolley, think a few steps further and invest in pieces that you wanna slip into right now but also carries you into next season and further. The latter explains my sales picks of today, mind the preach, but forward thinking has become my mantra (at least most of the time…). Happy sales shopping!

Breaking patterns

Hedvig Opshaug 28.05.2015-1

Hedvig Opshaug 28.05.2015-2

It occurred to me the other day that we’re already in June, though April and May always have a tendency to slip through my fingers, the unawareness this time around is that juggling too many things at once, has led to my autopilot taking the lead, however I’m immensly happy to be equipped by one when overloaded.

It’s time for a change though, and sartorial-wise I’m feeling in the mood of trying on new elements. Being a “femasculine minimalist” at heart I rarely step outside that territory, and I believe I’m not alone. In a conscious attempt of releasing myself from knits and monochromes, I’m into exploring new shapes and prints without investing too much on my side trip. Newly launched brand Finery offers just that with highstreet price points(!), contemporary designs, with a little playfulness, like this jumpsuit for instance, that I’m gonna wear to bits this summer!!
You can also find a great selection of new pieces in the edit on Finery London.

The perfect block…

miu miu suede sandal 1

Finding the perfect block heeled sandal hasn’t been the easiest of tasks despite the block parades this season. Not being a fan of too bulky heels in general this little sandal by Miu Miu is my absolute favourite in stores right now. Simple and clean, works with everything, with the perfect block heel and height, there’s certainly no wiggling ahoy.
Yours for £365 and you’ll find them here. (In patent nude here).

The midi…

Hedvig Opshaug 02.05.2015-1

Hedvig Opshaug 02.05.2015-2

Being a casual denim girl at heart dresses are not exactly dominating my hangers, however being a lover of one pieces it makes perfect sense to make some room for them. I won’t put my forces on little party numbers or couture but simple midi dresses that works 24/7. I happened to like the dress above so much I decided to get it with prints too, that I would wear with a cashmere knit and sneakers on the go. Thumbs up for versatile one pieces, one of my active steps to declutter a hopelessly unorganised wardrobe situation.
Though a pair of pretty courts would perhaps had been the obvious choice with a pretty dress like this, I broke up the prettiness with my granny heels by Celine, fugly indeed, but love’em!!

How we roll…

Hedvig Opshaug 25.04.2015-1

Hedvig Opshaug 25.04.2015-2

Summery temperatures have finally started showing in London, though I wouldn’t dear leaving the house just yet without a throw on or a warming knit. Speaking of the latter, this cashmere piece have certainly proved it’s value and juicy tag. Never have a single piece been recycled and loved as much as this one in my wardrobe. While you might have tired of it by now, I never will, which again proves to me that investing thoughtfully in your wardrobe really does pay off in the long run. It’s not rocket science, but if you’re a knit girl, invest in the best knits, same goes for dresses, shoes, jeans, or what else closest to your heart, and play around with the rest from high and low.

Favourite Shirt…

ganni shirt

After years of having to tune into men’s departments for the perfect shirt, brands from high and low finally got around a few years back and understood that the female specimen opted for the same fit and look, but just a little more neatly feminine fitted in the right areas.

Danish mid-market brand Ganni, recently launched a small mannish shirt collection in cotton and silk with the perfect fit for a reasonable penny, starting from £90 and you’ll find them here.

We all need it at some point, to take a few solid steps back, escape all usual surroundings, change of scenery and routines, take deep breaths and lower our shoulders. Speaking for myself, and presume for many others, the challenge is finding the time. For as much as we love glorious beach holidays with friends and exploring exciting cities over weekends, I wouldn’t necessarily call it charging batteries, unless it’s somewhere completely remote and silent that puts things in perspective, but by the time you return to high speed normal life hopefully you’re missing the buzz too.

For me that escape is heading back home to were I grew up in the North of Norway, and while spending my Easter there for all outdoor activities than can be offered, I again teamed up with Net-a-Porter’s lifestyle section , Net-a-Sporter, that offers the best selection of crossover lifestyle and sportswear there is. At higher altitudes than last summers beach run, my favourite local photographer Rune Dahl, captured a hiking trip in the mountain I grew up and basically skied before I could walk, Narvikfjellet.

Not wanting to splurge on whole new wintery gear so late in the season I put together a few allrounder pieces that I will be using for other than alpine surroundings as well. This rash guard for instance will be my faithful companion come water-sport season, and waterproof boots can walk me anywhere in British outdoor life. Anyway, we don’t always need to justify our sartorial choices right, even on a mountain (!), these sunnies speak for themselves…
