These late December festive times can be a little tricky, while being dressed for indoor festivities and cocktail parties allows you wearing open toe shoes and no tights in sight, you might end up looking slightly odd though on the way there, unless you have a door to door car service.

On another note, this season my favourite party wear are jumpsuits, when I think about it they always are, over the years I’ve ended up having a bigger selection of jumpsuits than dresses. I like how you can dress it up and down and never end up looking overdressed, rather effortless, plus it’s easy to pack along on holidays or roll up in weekend bags, wearable with flats, sneakers and heels, an all rounder!

I can highly recommend the jumpsuits by DvF, “the Queen of Wraps”, you’ll find a selection here, or if in doubt treat someone with a Net-a-Porter Gift Card, just can’t go wrong!

Industry rumours…

Hedi Slimane-Vanityfair.com photoHedi Slimane, Vanityfair.com

Little causes as much speculations and rumours in the fashion sphere as when designers are leaving their post in iconic houses, voluntarily or not. Last week the Kering group announced the departure in February of Patrizio di Marco, Gucci’s chief executive, and Frida Giannini, its creative director, after 10 years at the helmet. The rumoured list of successors has since taken of, Riccardo Tisci, Joseph Altuzarra, Peter Dundas, Stefano Pilati, Thomas Maier, Maria Grazia Chiuri, and the latest contender in the loop, Hedi Slimane. How about Tom Ford, did I say that?

Rise and shine world, it’s a new week, and for most of us a very busy one with holidays just around the corner, cheer up, there’s light ahead!

Btw, “It Bags”, do you remember the expression that was overly used and might still be. Personally I was never really into it, when anything “qualified” the term it already felt so overexposed and passé. It might be one of the perks of working in the area though. Being under constant exposure of the fashion industry make many see things differently over the years. Speaking for myself, stripping down my wardrobe to the absolute clean lined timeless essentials would be ideal, I might never get there, but opting for the organised, non-cluttered part of your life sounds so good in theory. The latter explains my latest addition of arm candy, it was love at first sight with this understated bag from Gucci’s Holiday collection, clean, sharp and versatile, just the way I like it.

You’ve probably seen it many times already this week, but great things get away with being repeated. First looks of Givenchy’s SS15 ad faced by Julia Roberts is definitely an unexpected move, but oh so brilliant. Stripped down, smart, beautiful, pure, honest and strong, now this speaks…

Black velvet x NET-A-PORTER Holiday

After long time searching high and low for something perfectly flared, this high waisted specimen by Proenza Schouler just fit like a glove. Culottes you may say, not quite, and not fully trousers either, but I’m just about to move into this pair and gonna carry them a long way, all through the festive season and beyond. How my ankles will feel about that when the cold sets in is a different story, but sometimes unhealthy sartorial choices come first.

On another note, some may find all black boring, but I surely never will. It’s all about playing around with different surfaces in shapes of great tailoring. If you’re looking for some timeless black investment pieces yourself you’ll find a great selection in Net-a-Porter’s Evening Room.

December gloom? Not at all, yes days are getting shorter, but we’ve got the best ahead of us. Being an forever optimist with feet solidly grounded there’s light ahead. Either in form of Christmas sparkles, family reunions, goodwill for others or that little hope that Santa heard your prayers.

On my door a few Christmas treats arrived a little earlier than usual this year. With the risk of repeating myself to often, you can’t go wrong with classics, and a versatile wool cape and straight leg blue jeans are certainly some of them.
Running short of ideas of what to gift that special someone in your life or simply want to splurge yourself? Netaporter’s “Can’t-go-wrong” shop-room is the place to klick.

As a juxtaposition to all the sparkling Victoria Secret wings from yesterday’s London spectacle that will be all over the place from today and 1 week forward, I want to give a shout out that my own forever girl crush and uber cool woman, on and off screen, Tilda Swinton, has been named US GQ’s 2014 Woman of the Year. Read the fascinating interview here.

Chanel’s Reincarnation by Karl Lagerfeld

Who minds a fashion injection in December, and a compote of Pharrell Williams, Chanel and Cara Delevingne, directed by Karl Lagerfeld is as great as it sounds. The almost 8 min short film ‘Reincarnation’ celebrates the origin of the Chanel jacket, inspired by a lift attendant (Pharrell) working in a hotel near Salzburg, enjoy!!!

There’s something about mid blue denim, and I find my love for it happen more cyclical than anything else on the trend radar, if you could ever call denim a “trend”. After a few seasons of being absent on my front shelves in my wardrobe, I’ve a strong feeling I’m gonna dig out a few “old” blue denim pieces very soon and look for new additions come spring 2015. Stay tuned for more blues…

Black Friday

Black Friday Picks-The Northern Light by Hedvig Opshaug

It’s Black Friday!!!
Celebrating a season of sales shopping and great retail offers with some of my favourite picks out there. My best sales shopping tip is to invest in classic timeless high quality pieces that could end up being staples in your wardrobe for seasons ahead, and avoid the trap of too-on-trend-at-the-moment pieces, though it can be very tempting. Think ahead and keep next season in mind, happy shopping gals!

Boots of the season to me are beyond doubt the knee-lenght, ankle boots in all their glory, the longer boots have finally come out on top. If winter in London will end up as chilly and wet as predicted I’m happy I stocked up with a few pairs that also make it easier to wear skirts and dresses throughout the season.
On another note, a budget tip this week is this little collared velvet dress by Cos that I’ve already worn to bits, just remember to pair it with higher denier tights.

Happy Wednesday to you lovely ones!

Vogue US December issue provides the perfect inspiration for the 70′s flare in the air perfected on Natalia Vodianova styled by Grace Coddington. Except for being totally sold on high waisted suede A-line skirts I’m personally  so in the mood for a longer or short suede coat belted in the waist, the hunt is on!

Liberty London

Meanwhile, while the rest of the northern hemisphere looks like being buried under snow, London still encourages transitional dressing code, if this is the “new” winter, I’m definitely signing up for it.

Speaking of something London’ish, you can hardly go more London than the iconic Liberty  retailer, which amongst many attributes is famous for their iconic prints. After being offered to have a look on their latest additions to the Iphis collection including bags and other accessories, my eyes landed on this canvas tote, the perfect travel mate or when you carry a few things extra along.

The jumpsuit

Jumpsuit picks-Hedvig Opshaug

It’s the season for Christmas drinks and parties and a personal favourite of mine that works for any occasion is the jumpsuit. Bless the LBD, but I find a wrap jumpsuit with a little 70′s flare a tad more chic, and eliminates skin baring in chilly receptions. You’ll find plenty of options out there right now, but my personal favourite is this creation by Diane Von Furstenberg, the all-round winner and officially added to my wish list, along with these other new picks in stores, yum!
